The Ile  Iwosan Orunmila Mimo-Orunmila's Healing Spaces

is a temple dedicated to the Worship, Education, Healing of people, through the Edification of Olodumare, Ori-Isese, Orunmila, Irunmole and Orisa, of the Yoruba Peopleof Southwest Nigeria.  It is our pleasure to serve Olodumare, Ela, Irunmole and our Ancestors with grace, dignity, enthusiasm and love.

Otura AlarabaOwo ewe o to pepeT’agbalagba o wo keregbeIse ewe be agbaKo ma se koOni oun ti baba omo nse fun omoAdifa fun Otura oun ObaraWon nsawo lo sile KisiWon ni ki won ruboKi won Ni Ife ara won The hands of children can not reach the alterWhile the hands of elders can not enter the bottle calabash (gourd)The errand which children send eldersLet the elders refuse not There are assignments which parent carries out for their childrenThese were the Ifa declarations to Otura and ObaraWhen going on a spiritual mission to Kisi landThey were advised to offer eboAnd love each other When seeking to speak to our people or counsel them on the nature of relationships; it has become abundantly clear that the word ‘love’, whether in speaking concerning our relationships with our mothers and fathers, wives or husband, children and other relatives or even friendships is used without true understanding or knowledge.   In the Ifa community the word “Ife” does not come up in many conversations when referring to the most wonderful and powerful force in the universe.   Maybe it comes from our inability to address love in terms of care and affection or even under spiritual terms. In Latin, you have Agape’-Gods love for humanity or altruistic and spontaneous love; Eros-associated with a god of Rome, Eros, who was a son of Aphrodite.  This type of love is built upon lust and sexual desire, libido, sublimated impulses and self preservation.  Or as below PhiliaPhilia (Greek: φιλíα) in Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics is usually translated as 'friendship',[1] though in fact his use of the term is rather broader than that. As Gerard Hughes points out, in Books VIII and IX Aristotle gives examples of philia including: ILE IWOSAN ORUNMILA MIMO TEMPLEMONTHLY NEWSLETTERAUGUST EDITION    "young lovers (1156b2), lifelong friends (1156b12), cities with one another (1157a26), political or business contacts (1158a28), parents and children (1158b20), fellow-voyagers and fellow-soldiers (1159b28), members of the same religious society (1160a19), or of the same tribe (1161b14), a cobbler and the person who buys from him (1163b35)."[2] All of these different relationships involve getting on well with someone, though Aristotle at times implies that something more like actual liking is required. When he is talking about the character or disposition that falls between obsequiousness or flattery on the one hand and surliness or quarrelsomeness on the other, he says that this state:"has no name, but it would seem to be most like [philia]; for the character of the person in the intermediate state is just what we mean in speaking of a decent friend, except that the friend is also fond of us." (1126b21) This passage indicates also that, though broad, the notion of philia must be mutual, and thus excludes relationships with inanimate objects, though philia with animals, such as pets, is allowed for (see 1155b27–31).In bringing these definition of what most us have been trained and aculturated with through our social forms ie, schools, home, religious organizations, growing up in our perspective lands.  The average idea of love comes under the what  is described as the 4 loves that are affection, friendship, libido-eros and charity.However, for the purpose of this article is the make the relationships of love from a Yoruba world view and compare it to what we have had in learned behaviors in the African Diaspora.Ifa implores, in Otura Obara, us not only to love one another but also implies that all human beings elders, youth, friends, lovers, or family have a great need to find  healthy ways to express this love in being charitable and caring to one another.The Love of Olodumare as emphazied  through the use of the Agape definition, is the ever reaching and abiding force that is uniquely in every living thing. The thing that makes things happen, the jell which is the creative force of the universe.When this force is felt in its most purste form; it translates in many human beings who have not developed a higher spiritual calling, vibration, higher self, or caring, and for some in our community of Ifa; as those who do not always strive to have more devote and pure friendship as spoken of in the ‘philia’ type love.The term of ‘philia’ for the purpose of this article is the type of relationship ILE IWOSAN ORUNMILA MIMO TEMPLEMONTHLY NEWSLETTERAUGUST EDITIONthat we want our loving relationships to become spiritually even those of marriages.  Friendship, compassion, charity to each other, honor, respect, validity that transcend ourselves.  Selflessness of brotherhood and sisterhood that can create lasting bonds that surpass even death.Unfortunately, here in the Diaspora, our Ifa community,associations,  family, friendships, or personal loving relationships, are not always as loving nor as caring as they should be.We, in some instance carry over learn behaviors and attributes of our parents on how their relationship were; some good, some very bad.  However, we must begin to challenge some of these gobal and world views both Eurocenter and African, in terms of our human carriage of ideals that may be antiquaint and in some instances thoroughly inhumane.Our children of Ifa expect us to give to them a world that is not wracked with disrespect of our families, members of our community, dishonoring our women,emasculating our men and removing the idea  of brotherhood/sisterhood as a higher social order with spiritual intent.We have an obligation to make sure that the world and Yoruba global world view and life is one with the love provided by Olodumare;  that they will take time to grow and have full loving-philia- community and relationship development for the next 7 generations forward.It begins first with us, our husbands and wives, our priest and priestess, must know what love is.  They must show what love is to each other and to their families. Their children must be safe in their love and be secure in enviroments that fill their lives with happiness and this developes great intelligence.Our children must know that we have their backs and will work hard to make their place in the world a loving, exciting, beautiful place to exist.  This is what Olodumare, Ifa, Ori, Irunmole and our ancestors strove to have for us. They died for this and us.Our words can not be maiming, hurtful, demeaning or ecited utterances meant to destroy a person life and heart.We must be responsible to each other, learning to touch each other with passion of Olodumare and not with eros-love that is filled with sublimated impulses, lust, and limited in its care, or hedonistically selfish and self-servingness against another human being or non-human soul.What is this legacy that we are passing on to the next generation of this religious tradition?  For if we do not stop the madness of our minds we will  ILE IWOSAN ORUNMILA MIMO TEMPLEMONTHLY NEWSLETTERAUGUST EDITIONinfect those 7 generations with the same ugliness and hatefulness that we inherited.How do we teach our sons and daughters to respect and care for each other?  By the dictates and teachings of BET or MTV as we were. Some us where of the Soul Train and American Band Stand generation.  Will your son disrespect my daughter and treat her with callousness and rude behavior.  Wanting to pass her on as a objectified item of his passion.  Will your daughter use my son as a deified person(priest) emasculating him and showing his impassionate rudeness.   Not taking the time to know him, care for him but want him only for his position in the community; as a groupie would, is this what we are leaving as an inheritance?Ifa speaks of this in Ose Meji:Lest not friends be untrue to friend and and I in friendship, bonded to Truth though friends we areOur moods may differAnd in differing moodsQuarrel may occur between friendsBut quarrel notwithstandingBond of truth must remain unbroken between friendsThis was the oracle injuctionTo four hundred and one divinitiesComing down to earth from heavenThen all the divinities hedged to interact with Orisanla, the god of purityOn and always the mutual truthfulnessSo, too, must it be for all people of the earth, Whether of Ipo or of Ofa;Truth is the only acceptavle sacrifice or pre-reequisite for human success of and God’s favor.
Begin in September, Ile Iwosan Orunmila Mimo Temple will resume worship services.  We will be checking on our dates for classes for November and December 2008.  These will be Obi Abata divination and Awo seminar.

Every Sunday morning  at our temple worship we bing our services with prayer, songs to Ifa and the Irunmole, in celebration of our love, devotion, and committment to Olodumare and Ori-Isese.

We are committed to this worship and ask all those who come come with this same spirit of joy and ready to learn the way of the Ancient Ones of Orun.  We have a devotional period and after services we have food and further conversation to ways of Ifa.  We ask that those who come also bring food to feed at least 4 people, food that is healthy conciousness and drinks that can be water, juice for the fellowship directly after services.  We also invite those who come to bring offerings for the Ifa of the house and the Orisa that are housed here: palm oil, candles, efun, Oti, Kola nuts, bitter cola, yam ,cloth,oyin(honey),money, food goods for all Orisa, incense, the are free will gifts to our Deities.  Ile Iwosan Orunmila Mimo temple is a 501(c)3 Not-For-Profit organization dedicated tot he cultural development, community development, spiritual guidance that comes from the Yoruba tradition of Ifa.  We provide not only spiritual education and guidance but we are trained to provide the African traditional

 religious perspective as directed by our Elders in Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana.  We prayer that Olodumare will bless you and keep you within its arms with love.
